Who is Aimée Cast?

Aimée Cast is an artist from Jersey in the Channel Islands and at the heart of her work is a deep desire to feel accepted and to find a place where everyone can truly feel like they belong. That feeling of not quite fitting in, has followed her for much of her life, and it’s become a core part of Aimée’s creative practice. To counter that, she made the conscious choice to bring joy and vibrancy into her work. Using colour as a form of therapy, Aimée creates art that makes herself smile and hopefully makes others feel something too - whether it’s warmth, curiosity, or just a bit of joy.

Nature and animals have always fascinated Aimée, which led her to pigeons - creatures so often ignored or pushed aside. To her, pigeons reflect how many people feel: out of place, underestimated, and dismissed. In her art world, pigeons are anything but grey. They’re bold, bright, and full of personality, just like the people she wants the work to speak to. Through colour and character, she gives these birds the attention they deserve, using them as symbols of transformation, individuality, and resilience.

The imagined world, Scallywag, was born from this mindset. It’s a surreal space where misfits thrive, where the weird and wonderful are celebrated, and where joy sits at the centre. Since building Scallywag, the artists has said that she’s found more confidence and community in the real world too, by exhibiting her work, selling to people who connect with it and even being commissioned to paint a mural that brings Scallywag to life on a public wall.

Aimée Cast’s earlier work used to be a bit darker, driven by feelings of isolation. But one day she looked around the studio at her university and saw so many others also making sad, muted work and then decided to shift this energy. She started making art that relayed what she wanted to feel: playful, chaotic, funny, and full of colour. That decision changed everything. Now, she embraces imperfection, celebrates imagination and builds alternative realities that offer people a sense of comfort, absurdity, and possibility.

Aimée found herself through this process and hopes that her work helps others feel seen, accepted, and a little less alone.
